Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami : After Two Decades Of Waiting, The Iconic Duo Is Back!

Louis Vuitton Has Officially Announced Their Latest Collaboration With Takashi Murakami

The most-talked collaboration makes its first appearance in the real world. Excited Much?

Hello Friends,

When Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami first teamed up in 2002, they created a collection so groundbreaking that it redefined the outlook of the fashion industry.

Now, as the two reunite once again in 2025, they are integrating their designs into contemporary fashion, feeling neither like a mere continuation nor a surprise.

Instead, it will be a victory lap for both brands, proving their influence remains as strong as ever.

While little is known about the release, the teaser shared on Instagram gives fans a glimpse of what is to expect for early 2025.

Twenty years after their first collection, Louis Vuitton is revisiting a collaboration that changed the outlook forever. The renowned French luxury house has announced a follow-up with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, unveiling plans for a vibrant Re-edition collection.

Featuring Murakami’s iconic vibrant floral motifs, playful bear design, and the ever-recognizable LV monogram, the duo is re-releasing some of the collaboration’s most iconic pieces. From bags to accessories, the possibilities are endless.

This reissue strategy reflects not just savvy marketing in light of the shifting luxury market but also mirrors the success of Louis Vuitton’s 2022 collaboration with Yayoi Kusama. Yet, the enduring brilliance of the original Murakami partnership continues to captivate.

Under Marc Jacobs‘ creative direction in Spring/Summer 2003, LV x Murakami introduced rainbow-monogrammed handbags and cherry blossoms riddled with kelly green, turquoise, yellow, and hot pinks as well as featuring the accessories patterned with Murakami’s anime-inspired characters.

Looking back, the luxury fashion industry of the early 2000s seems almost unrecognizable compared to today’s influencer-driven world. Back then, social media was a distant dream, and also no big-time artist-luxury crossovers.

But Jacobs’ visionary partnership with Murakami marked a pivotal moment in mixing art and fashion in a way that even continues to resonate today.

UPDATE: Amidst fan excitement for the newly-announced Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami collection, Supreme Leaks took to Instagram for a first look at what the collab will entail along with estimated retail prices.

A massive bag case featuring Murakami’s vibrant Louis Vuitton monogram, priced at an eye-popping $650,000 USD. Other standouts include a $3,750 USD floral leather carrier, a $7,800 USD Capucines bag, a $65,500 USD monogram trunk, and even a $1,180 USD pen.

For fans eyeing more accessible pieces, the collection also includes belts, wallets, bag charms, perfumes, puzzles, and coffee cups — all priced under $1,000 USD.  With its mix of luxury and whimsy, this collaboration is shaping up to be a major moment in fashion.

And so, fashion and art have crossed paths in subtle ways over the years. Even today, the art-meets-fashion conceit is evoked by everyone from the world’s largest luxury labels to streetwear brands.

Brands like Prada and COMME des GARÇONS occasionally made headlines by featuring artists like Basquiat on their runways or collaborating on unique projects such as Prada Marfa. Even classic houses like Hermès dabbled in art partnerships, creating limited-edition accessories.

However, there really wasn’t such a thing as full-scale seasonal collaborations, certainly not at the scale of LV x Murakami.

The excitement reached new heights when Zendaya was spotted for the first time with the Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Side Trunk in Monogram Multicolor White. This coveted bag has already earned a spot on countless wishlists, bringing the nostalgia of the iconic print with a contemporary twist in its soft trunk design.

Its rectangular shape pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s iconic archival luggage with golden reinforced corners for a touch of heritage elegance.

Crafted from supple cowhide leather, the bag showcases a vibrant multicolor monogram print that feels both timeless and fresh. Designed for versatility, it has a removable handle and strap, making it easy to carry in multiple ways. Plus, it’s spacious from the inside, perfectly sized to hold all your daily essentials.

So, Mark your calendars! The highly anticipated LV x Takashi Murakami re-edition collection is launching on January 1, 2025. And, like they said, reuniting with Murakami feels like the next logical step in their evolution.
